  My initial consultation was at the Elk Grove Location. By error of the scheduler I was placed with the wrong doctor and after a 45 minute wait, the admin scheduled an appointment for me at the Mt Prospect office two hours later. After a 15-20 minute consultation with Dr. Zak, I was asked to pay $175 for the consultation. When I initially made the appointment over the phone, I was advised that the consultation would be $95.00. When asked about the price difference compared to the original quote, the office advised me that it $95 was the starting price and can be more depending on what was done/length of time I was seen. After speaking with 2 different women about the total due, the office manager stepped in and said she would have to consult with Dr. Zak to have the difference waved. Despite dealing with being scheduled with the wrong doctor and the prolonged wait time I was calm. Dr. Michael J. Zak eventually came out and was extremely short. Instead of taking the time to listen, he vilified me as I was trying to explain the situation to him. He shut me down and replied “No we don’t say that, we say starts and we’re charging you’re the total cost of 175!” Before I could even finish, he walked away. As someone who works in the healthcare industry, I found him to be unprofessional and rude. There was no concern for me as a patient that had been dealing with several errors from the staff. It is still a business and I am a customer and felt there are other ways that could have been handled without leaving me offended. Legally and ethically you have to disclose the cost of services before they’re rendered. This was not done, and how he went about rectifying the issue was unprofessional and tacky. Whether I was being discriminated against and/or he was having a bad day, I was still a customer referred by their orthodontist for a service. My actions based on a misunderstanding caused by his own staff didn’t warrant his behavior. I am not going back and would never recommend him in the future.
